De Thuisgevers

What you'll do

De Thuisgevers converts vacant properties — churches, school buildings, parsonages — into temporary housing for status holders across the Netherlands. They're active in 70+ municipalities. Alongside the housing work, they run a buddy programme pairing volunteers with newly housed status holders to help them navigate their new town and community.

Two ways to get involved:

• Thuisgeefbuddy — paired with a status holder in your municipality for practical support, social contact, and help with integration steps (appointments, forms, finding your way around).
• Local initiator — know of a vacant building or want to start a Thuisgevers initiative in your area? They want to hear from you.

What it takes

• Based in or near one of their active municipalities
• Patient, practical, and comfortable with the slow pace of bureaucratic integration processes
• Dutch language skills — most participants are working towards Dutch fluency
